Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2
The Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2 booted straight out of the box and installed Windows XP perfectly. It runs the operating system without any problems. If you are going to use this board for gaming it is HIGHLY recommended you stick to the specific list of compatible graphics card listed on Asrock's website for this board. Straying from this list may give you problems, as I found out. It accepted both 400MHz DDR & 667MHz DDR2 memory and ran without a problem. You get what you pay for with this motherboard. If you're looking for cheap and chearful, this is it. If you require something more compatible and future-proof go for a more expensive Asus board. The VIA PT880 Pro chipset is somewhat outdated and lets this product down greatly.
Good transition board
Fantastic motherboard if, like me, you are upgrading from an older format (agp, ddr) but are on a budget. I bought this along with a core 2 quad q6600 and it works well. The only problem with it is a slight loss in processor speed if you use a quad processor and only two SATA ports. Takes my Geil ultra pc26400 ram with ease.
Asrock motherboard
Bought this board as an upgrade, and following manufacturers guidance bought recommended graphics card that was found to be incompatable! Also for driver updates get directed to a 3rd party site. Hence only 3 stars for overall rating.
AGP life extender.
Nice motherboard for the money and AGP compatability. Only niggle is the latest Bios sent by Asrock tech doesn't like DDR2 667 memory and down grades it to lower speed. If you force Bios to run at correct (667) speed for DDR2 667, can cause crashes. Asrock not very helpful over this issue, but running memory at slower speed is ok. Overall its a good in between motherboard to make use of older components, at least untill ready to spend on a new PCI system.

| Verdict | When discussing current Intel chipsets, the phrase "budget sector" is somewhat of an oxymoron. While there are a lot of choices in the $45 to $60 range for Core 2 Duo compatible boards, these are mainly based on older designs that do not offer ... |
